Message: Hi! I am trying to locate pictures of my grandpa's old home place. If anyone can help, please send me an email. My grandpa was Homer Ramsey and his wife was Nancy. Homer was the son of Sam & Rebecca Ramsey. The house was located just before Hamlin. If you are headed from Dante to Hamlin on Rt 63, just before you get to the Hamlin turn off (left onto Rt 615), my grandpa's house sit on the right hand side of the road, past the railroad track, up against the hill. We had to actually walk down the rail road track and cross over to get to their house. I believe the house was torn down in the late 70's or 80's. Thank You!

Message: Dear Friends,

My wife Linda and I had the good fortune of attending the Dante Lives On 2008 Reunion. We are so glad that we made the long journey from Coral Gables, Florida to the beautiful hills of southeast Virginia! Best of all we met many kind and wonderful people! Congratulations to everyone who organized such a fantastic event.

About nine months ago I discovered the Dante Lives On website while researching my family history. My grandmother, Marie Long Kries, was the eldest child of Lee and Lucy Long. I was aware that my great grandparents lived in Dante but until I acquired a copy of the DLO book I did not really know my great grandfather Long. I was a young child when he passed away so I have no personal memories. Reading the book, visting Dante, walking up Roanoke Hill, and talking to the folks who call Dante "home" have provided me with a real insight into who he was. Thanks to all who made it possible.

We hope to make it to future reunions and if we can't we'll be there in spirit! Best wishes.

Message: What a wonderful site about a great little town! I was born in the hospital in Dante in 1952. My grandparents were Homer and Nancy (Edwards) Ramsey. I still have people there and in St. Paul and still love going "home" each chance I get. The site shows a lot of hard work and dedication on everyone's part and I think its terrific! Keep up the good work and I'm anxious to see any new additions! Best of wishes and warmest regards from Delaware!

Message: I recently found out that my grandfather and grandmother lived in Dante. They had two children while living there (my two aunts) before my mother was born in Wyco, WV. I know he mined coal for a living and I was very interested to find out about Dante. I would like to visit some day.

Message: I remember when I was a child how much I hated spending each summer with my grandparents, Brady and Evelyn Smith. Now that I am old enough to be a grandparent what I would not give to still be able to spend the summers in cigarette hollow!
How I miss them along with my greatgrandmother (Kate Turner Smith) and my aunt Lucille Phillips Justice. To everyone in Dante, God Bless and greetings from Daytona Beach!

Message: Am so glad that the DLO site is back up and running so well. It's great to see comments from former and current members of the community. May the Lord continue to bless your good work.
I would appreciate any information from any source concerning the old Dante Hospital. My mother, Lenora Ingram Anderson, was head nurse and administrator working with Dr. L.C. McNeer, other physicians and Solomon Perry, an African American technician, orderly and "jack of all trades." My father was Harvey Ellis Anderson who was Chief Accounting Officer for Clinchfield Coal Corp. My brother was John Anderson, an early graduate of VPI who developed an international reputation as one of the world's outstanding experts on ultra
high voltage transmission. We lived in Squirel Hollow, Roanoke Hill, Railroad Avenue (two doors away from Union Church) and at the Clinchfield Inn.
I could go on and on regarding such wonderful memories of Dante and many childhood friends. Would love to correspond with any schoolmates, friends or those looking for information about Dante and its inhabitants of the 1930's - 40's.

Message: Hi, Just wanted to say great job on making this new site for DLO. I am glad that someone figured out a way to get input from those folks that come to the Reunion or Festival every year. There is a lot of work in planning the event and a lot of time is put in by all who help plan it. Sounds like this year is gonna be lots of fun so everyone should plan on 2 days of good music, food and company. Thanks to all who make it possible.

Message: Not sure it went through the last time, so I'm repeating. Been looking athis site from time to time. My father was born in Dante on August 15, 1922, and, I understand, named Ray Wilcox. A couple of years later, he was adopted in Radford, and given an entirely different name, Julius Oliver Hudson. Sometime later, they moved to Georgia, his adopted father's home state, where I still live, as he does. 25 or so years ago he visited Dante, and, at the post office, met the doctor who delivered him. The doctor was in his 90s, and didn't remember anything about it (no telling how many babies he had delivered). I know absolutely nothing else about it, but would surely like to.

Message: Been looking at this site off and on for some time, glad to have an opportunity to contact someone. About 25 years ago he visited and at the post office actually met the doctor who delivered him, but the old fellow was 90-odd years old and didn't remember any particulars.
